EN - The exhibition Fireflies of Wadu Kurulla weaves itself in the image of the bird’s nest: as a space of construction and transformation. With patience and precision, the bird builds its nest with an entrance designed to deceive predators. It is said to glue fireflies with mud to light up its interior, though experts have dismissed this. But perhaps they came in through the wrong door?

Taking this speculative fiction as its starting point — the existence of fireflies at the heart of a secret nest — the exhibition invites us to seek light at the edges of the real. Each artist explores possibilities beyond borders, in a world in constant mutation, subject to disenchantment and uniformity. They map the mutations of landscape, trace the invisible routes of techniques and plants across oceans, reawaken gestures that modernity erases.

The migratory bird lends its sweeping gaze, while pirate kites announce the omens of revolutions. The phoenix rises from its ashes and appears on surf shorts, bearing witness to the cultural circulations shaped by colonisation and tourism, as traditional gestures persist and transform. All signs point to the light being there, visible to those who know how to look beyond the fireworks.
